The Morning Star Trust is a recognised RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Training Centre meaning we can run practical courses for internationally recognised qualifications right up Yachtmaster Offshore.
Anyone sailing on a voyage on board Morning Star can work towards their Start Yachting, Competent Crew or Watch Leader certificates. Start Yachting can be achieved by all.
We also offer all the RYA Competent Crew, Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster courses on our 35’ training yacht, Bright Star. RYA skippering qualifications are the gold standard of sailing qualifications around the world, and can open up opportunities for chartering yachts abroad, and also for potential careers in yachting and sailing.
Our RYA courses are run primarily to enable our volunteers to access world class training, but we also open these courses up to members of the public.
Why do your course with MST Training?
Great Instruction. Our instructors are qualified to the same high RYA standards, and the majority work professionally in the industry when they aren’t volunteering with us. Because they are giving up their time to teach you without payment, you’ll find instructors who are passionate about sharing their expertise with you.
Great Value. We don’t have the newest boats, and we aren’t out to make a profit, so we can offer the same standard of training at a lower cost to you.
The Great Cause. By doing your RYA Training course with us, you are helping to support the Morning Star Trust’s life-changing work with young people and vulnerable adults from across the UK.
All our RYA practical course prices are all-inclusive of food, berthing and the loan of waterproof clothing (not boots) for the full duration of your voyage.
Our courses normally have four students and an instructor, with a maximum of five students on Competent Crew and Day Skipper course. Unless stated otherwise, RYA courses all begin and end at our Chatham base.
