The Morning Star Trust is a recognised RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Training Centre, meaning we can run practical courses for internationally recognised qualifications right up Yachtmaster Offshore on our training yacht, Bright Star.
We use spare capacity in the season, particularly during term time, to run courses for the public as a way of fundraising to support our work with young people and vulnerable adults.
RYA skippering qualifications are the gold standard of sailing qualifications around the world, and can open up opportunities for chartering yachts abroad, and also for potential careers in yachting and sailing.
Why do your course with MST Training?
Great Instruction. As we primarily work with young people, many with challenging behaviour, our skippers have to have be great sailors but also great at getting the best out of people. They are qualified to the same high standards as any RYA centre, but paperwork aside you'll find experienced and motivated professional sailors with a real passion for what they do.
Great Value. We don’t have the newest boats, and we aren’t out to make a profit, so we can offer the same standard of training at a lower cost to you.
Great Cause. By doing your RYA Training course with us, you are helping to support the Morning Star Trust’s life-changing work with young people and vulnerable adults from across the UK.
Unlike some centres, our RYA practical course prices include all food, all berthing costs and loan of high quality waterproof clothing (not boots) for the full duration of your voyage. Any course materials required for the successful completion of the course will be provided.
Our courses normally have four students and an instructor (usually assisted by a second trainer), with a maximum of five students on Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses. Unless stated otherwise, RYA courses all begin and end at our Northney base.
We can also offer additional RYA courses at dates to suit your group, please contact us.
